I'm addicted...to celebrities attempting to foxtrot

Does anyone else watch the trainwreck known as Dancing With the Stars?

I have to admit, I can't stop watching. I have been addicted for for the last couple of years, and it's really the only competition/talent show I watch. I don't even mess with American Idol. So You Think You Can Dance? Whatever. America's Got Talent? Zzzzzz.

My big beef is that there's always some pop tart who has been dancing since she/he was five, who unfairly kicks ass (see past contestants: Joey Fatone, Drew Lachey, Scary Spice etc. Currently: Nicole, the Pussycat Doll). Then there's the gymnasts and ice skaters. I'm not saying they have a totally unfair advantage because ballroom dancing is difficult. But I'm more impressed by the non-dancers who learn how to perform and connect with an audience, to memorize routines and get their 8 counts.

I have to say I'm super pissed that Shannon Doherty got kicked off first tonight. I was totally team Brenda. So now I've only got one couple I'm really rooting for and that's Niecy Nash and Louis!

I fell in love with Louis last season when he danced with Kelly Osbourne. And how can you not love Niecy? She hosts Clean House, which was one of my favorite Style network shows when I had cable. She's always wearing an awesome flower in her hair (I'm hoping for a coordinated one for every DWTS dance). And tonight, when asked about one of her fellow dancers being voted off, she responded:

"It makes me sick to my stomach...and kind of hungry."

I LOVE HER.
If you watch the show, please vote for her, because not only is she shaking her "jiggly parts" and doing really well, she brings the funny.

Sickness prevails, what's a girl to do

I hate being sick and going to the grocery store and being *that* person. You know, the sick girl with her grubby sweatshirt and ponytail, unshowered and sweaty, with a laundry list of stuff to buy. Mine today included:

* Mucinex
* Yogi Thoat Comfort tea
* 1 lemon
* cough drops
* super orange Emergen-C
* cadbury cream eggs (you know for a sugar boost)
* New Moon reserved at the redbox

Yes, I am that girl. I also hate how the person checking me out is just looking at me in disdain thinking, "yuck, don't touch me. I see that Mucinex in your cart."

Luckily I have a wonderful boyfriend who also took me out for Pho (delicious anytime, HEAVENLY when you have a cold), then stopped by the library so I could pick up some books on hold. So now I'm in bed, computer in my lap, tea full of lemon and honey next to me, and a stack of books on the table beside me. About as content as I could be with a sore throat and a cough that is making me wince, it hurts so much. Do any of you have sick time rituals? Mine normally included noodles, Gilmore Girls and vicks vapor rub.

Also, any advice on on how to relive really deep chest pain and a sore throat? I'll take any tips! C'mon moms, nurse me!

Pie vs. Cake: YOU DECIDE

Jezebel is cracking me up with their current March Madness tournament:

I highly recommend heading over to Jezebel.com and participating. I'm an equal opportunity dessert eater, in that I love both pie and cake (and cookies and brownies and ice cream, yikes). I will say if I HAD to pick one, I'd probably go with pie.

Cheesecake for the win!

PS: I'm not sure if it's cutting off the image on anyone else's computer. It is on mine. I'm not sure how to fix that.

Spring suckas

I would like to preface this with an aplology to anyone who is still covered in snow. I am not trying to make you jealous. Well, I might be.

Spring has come to Seattle. The last month has been unbelievably gorgeous, with temps getting as high as the mid 60's, a lack of (major) rainfall, and everything has started to bloom. Don't believe me? I took these outside of my apartment this week:

Gorgeous right?

I am feeling a bit guilty about enjoying all this fabulous weather because....I have had the last month and a half off. I didn't want to blog about it too much, because...it's well weird. The record store that I work at was moving. Our landlord didn't have our new building ready for us yet. So, we've been waiting. And getting paid. I know, I know...I would punch me right now too if I were you. It's weird because I have dreamed of having this kind of time off. And I have enjoyed it by reading way too many books (actually reading way too many YA books), diligently practicing my knit stich so that I can finally move on from just purling, spring cleaning the house (haven't gotten very far) and being lazy. Well, not just lazy. The weather has inspired the bf and I to go on hikes, and picnics and just nice long walks. I ate next to a river last week, and climbed (a tiny) part of a mountain a few weeks before that.

It's been awesome. And I go back to work Monday. Which I am actually so glad for, I'm truly looking forward to it. So here's to Spring...I hope everyone gets a chance to see it soon. (and for those wondering, it's pouring down rain today and windy, so there ya go)

Willa, making me feel like a kid again

I have a new obsession.

And it involves a cartoon. Yes, a cartoon.

I may be 28 years old, but I still like to flip through the channels while eating breakfast, especially on the weekend. I normally would rather sit through an episode of Judge Judy than any of the current cartoons out there, but last weekend I happened to come across the CUTEST animation I've seen in a long time.

Willa's Wild Life

I don't know what it is about this show, but I was hooked. I sat through two full episodes, and then hopped on line and watched all the ones that I could find. I still don't even know what it's really about. An adorable little girl named Willa lives with her dad and basically a zoo? And I'm pretty sure one of the mean cartoon girls is voiced by Paige from Degrassi.

I really like this style of animation. I love Willa as a character (normal girl with problems). It's so cute! I'm seriously obsessed. Has anyone else seen this? Or I am the only almost 30-something who can't get enough of it? (or still watches cartoons when she's bored?)

A Kishi-eque moment

Today I feel like Claudia Kishi.

No I'm not rocking a side ponytail, or wearing some cool parrot papermache earrings that I made, or complaining about how spelling is so hard. I wish.

I'm experiencing my lady time and seem to be on a junk food rampage. Yesterday I made the mistake of hiding a butterfinger in my apartment, and as of twenty minutes ago I couldn't find it. I don't have any hollowed out books, or art supplies to dig through, but I knew I had stuck it somewhere. My hormones were calling to me. Finally, I had my "ah ha!" moment, and found it tucked away in a box with a bunch of CD's next to my computer.

I am now eating a candy bar for breakfast. Thanks Claudia for the inspiration.

(if you don't read BSC books, this blog will be a bunch of nonsense to you. That's ok)

All hail the queen, Judy Blume

I stumbled across something I never thought I would find.

Judy Blume has a blog!

Seriously, I found this link and just started to tear up. She is pretty much my childhood idol. Finding her blog was like watching those Visa Olympic commercials over and over, especially the Dan Jansen one. Not sure what I'm talking about?

This shit made me bawl everytime. Damn you Morgan Freeman and your amazing voice overs.

I'm so excited to read about Judy, even if she doesn't update it regularly. In fact, finding her blog has inspired me to pull out my worn copy of Just as Long as We're Together, by far my favorite Blume book.
