I'm not dead. Although winter quarter of college definitely tried to murder me, I managed to survive. I thought this blog was a goner; however, inspired by some fellow bloggers, I've decided to post my ABCs of favorite movies.
(this is what one does when one has the day off and is fighting off a cold, but still has to go to school tonight and is trying to summon up the strength. Also googling pictures makes me feel better.)
Here we go. The movies that I could watch a billion times over and over. Note that these are not picked based on merit, just truly movies that I love, love, love.

A:
Anne of Green Gables
(I know this was a TV movie, and I debated whether to include Annie or Adventures in Babysitting instead, but I'm sorry. Anne with an E gets me every time)

B
The Breakfast Club

C
The Craft
(C was a toughie. But seriously guys, whatever happened to Jason Marsden? Not to be confused to with James Marsden (27 Dresses) or James Marsters (Spike from Buffy). I'm talking about Jason motherfracking Marsden:

(that picture was too goofy too pass up)

Jason first came to my attention as Dash X in the awesome, sort of cult-y, X-files for the tween set show Eerie Indiana. He went on to play small parts in a barrage of hit tv shows in the 90's: Baywatch, Blossom, Secret World of Alex Mac, Full House, Boy Meets World, Step By Step (remember when he hooked up with Dana?) etc. A pretty stellar list right? Not only that, he voiced the cat (Thackery) Binx in the best Disney Halloween movie EVER, Hocus Pocus. ::squeal::

I was feeling nostalgic for 'ol Jason, and was wondering what had become of him. Apparently raking in a shit ton of dough doing voices for cartoons. I guess that's what happens when you age past the "look" of 15, and are still 5'1". His voice actor resume is too impressive and lengthy to list, but if you're curious, check out his IMDB page.

And holy crap! He's turned into Faraday from Lost!!
(Can I swoon for Jeremy Davies just a little?)Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-73466543214862725452010-09-29T15:28:00.000-07:002010-10-03T12:16:47.772-07:00Things that need to change about Glee before the whole show capsizesOk. I AM A GLEEK. I frigging love the crap out of the show Glee. I download songs before the episode is out, I have frantic text sessions with my little sister while watching episodes, I nerd out on message boards (well sometimes) about the outcomes of my favorite characters.

But Glee is seriously starting to piss me off. I feel like they are taking a great show, and completely ruining it. Here's a few helpful hints to help Ryan Murphy and Co not destroy the show I love:

1. Enough with the artist themed episodes. Last night's Britney Spear's extravaganza was a great example of this. No real plot development. Sometimes tacky song arrangements. Scene for scene video re-enactments. This equals snooze fest. I'm not saying there wasn't enjoyable aspects of the episode (Seeing Heather Morris finally sing/dance the hell out of some songs, a Glee-ified version of "Toxic" that didn't suck, Sue's zing about wearing more vests than the cast of Blossom, John Stamos!!!), but you can't just throw four Britney hallucinations and a little Rachel/Finn drama in there and call it a day. I keep hearing talks of a Michael Jackson episode, a Bruce Springsteen episode, another Britney episode. NO. Please. Just put a stop to it. Incorporate these artists songs into different episodes, but please stop the focus. You nailed it with Madonna. Leave it at that.

2. Enough with the guest stars. Now wait a minute. I'm not calling off an end to ALL guest stars. Kristin Chenoweth was perfection (I wish she a regular cast member), Neil Patrick Harris...well probably didn't deserve that Emmy but was good, Idina Menzel was grossly underused and you all know how I feel about The Groff, swoon. (I'm still pissed at the way they didn't resolve that whole plot line...argg).

But now I'm hearing talks of Gwyneth Paltrow guesting. Barf. Jennifer Lopez has been rumored for quite some time. Barf. Susan Boyle. Ughh, barf. Justin Timberlake & Javier Bardem...well, swoon, but still, barf.
(I'm exempting John Stamos from this bashing because he kind of charmed my panties off last night. I also feel like he's B/C list enough to take a guesting role on Glee to really boost his career, instead of it being some celebrity cameo)

So you know, give the damn cast that was part of the pilot a freaking chance to sing!

I want more Kurt solos, more Mercedes solos, more Tina solos, more Quinn solos dammit! I want to see Mike Chang do more than dance and show off his abs. I want to explore what all their family life is like, since we've only been introduced to Quinn/Finn/Kurt's parents. Give this cast something to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2.5. If you kill off Mike O'Malley, I will stop watching the show. There I said it. I DARE YOU RYAN MURPHY.

3. Relating to 2, I'm going to say less Rachel solos. I have a hard time admitting this, since I'm a fan. I adored Lea in Spring Awakening. She kind of rocked my socks off in the first few episodes. But now? It's like a screeching cat. Who sings ALL. THE. TIME. I'm tired of it.

3.5. (see above) Lay off the auto tune. These kids can sing. Stop trying to make them sound like robots. Let their damn natural talent shine.

4. Back to Rachel....why are they trying to destroy this character? The writers have done everything in their power to make her the most annoying, whiny, clingy, obsessive, mean spirited, bitch on the show. Remember when the show started and she was an uber geek, who was aggressive and perhaps misguided in her need to be popular/famous, but who still had a heart? She was endearing in her nerdiness and you rooted for you her because you wanted her to succeed. I also miss the "home schooled" outfits. You can advance a characters growth without totally destroying how they began. (See: Willow - Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

4.5 Don't overdo Sue. You've got to ride that fine line. She's become the breakout star, the Emmy winner, but you gotta reign it in. Too much of a good thing is not that good. (also: Brittney)

5. Don't believe your own hype. Stop listening to Sony, and Fox and the media and anyone else whose trying to shove some agenda down your throat. Be the show that had a great first 13 episodes and a pretty decent back 9. Be funny and clever and snarky but still find the heart in all the subjects you mock. Spread out the song choices, let the cast shine. You've got a gem on your hands, and all it takes is one awful season for it all to go in the can. Good luck. I have (sort of) faith in you. Even after hearing that next weeks episode is called Grilled Cheezus. :: eye roll::Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-66517543898915055172010-07-13T13:17:00.000-07:002010-07-14T20:44:52.004-07:00More Beverly Hills...creepy sexist rapist teacherSchool has started again and everyone's excited, except Dylan. But I've worked my little patoot off just to bring you a recap of a random episode of Beverly Hills 90210, season 3. To be exact, it's episode 6, entitled "Castles In The Sand".

To catch you up to speed:

Brenda and Donna have gone to Paris for the summer. The Walshes are pissed at Dylan, and don't want Brenda to keep seeing him, leading to much arguing, sneaking around and then the eventual ticket to Paris. (Geez, I wish my parents would send me to Europe when I sassed them.) Brenda meet some hottie midwest college student (pre-Superman Dean Cain) and convinces him she's really french, then hooks up with him the last few days before they go back to Beverly Hills.

Back in the BH, Brandon is working at beach club, again, and dating some girl that Steve might have gone out with? I missed episode 5, so I'm a little lost. Also, Dylan and Kelly have been spending time together and keep accidently making out. Oh and David cheated on Donna too. Woops. Everyone is cheating. So that's about it.

I have never wanted to be Shannen Doherty's neck more, than in this still from the intro/theme song. Dylan Mckay is just straight up nuzzling. Good lord

Uh oh, someone spent the night on the beach together. But they didn't have sex. That is very clearly stated. Kelly looks like she's going to murder Dylan with an axe. However, if I woke up next to Luke Perry, I'd probably have the same crazy look on my face too.

Brandon actually thanks Brooke (his new lady) and her computer skills for making that ridiculous welcome home sign. For some reason this made me laugh really hard. He acts super impressed. And maybe that was impressive for 1993 and I just can't remember that far?

Brenda's home. Cringe, you can just see this ending badly.

Nothing like a little lady time in the bathroom. Eew Brenda's smoking now that she's back from France. And she's wearing a seriously awesome body suit. Do you remember how awful those were when you had to pee? You had to freaking unsnap them.

Oh shit Kelly, the lovebirds are back together.

Please don't murder Dylan. He's my favorite part of the show.

Oh and in case you forgot, David and Kelly's parents got married last season. So, you know, he waltzes in shirtless with a toothbrush in hand to console his step sister Kelly, who he used to be in love with. WEIRD. Also weird: Megan Fox is now married to that.

This is called foreshadowing. In a few minutes, Brooke is going to complain that Brandon doesn't kiss her in front of people. Which is kind of a bizarre thing to say, because these two spend most of the episode making out or yelling. Oh yeah and Brooke will from now on me called racist girl. There's some more foreshadowing for you.

I also wanted to say how much I LOVE Donna. Tori Spelling is the comic genius of 90210. Plus her sunflower bikini is so 90's and I kind of want it.

Brandon and racist girl start fighting because she said some really uncool shit. Like Brandon's boss Henry can't be fired because he's black. Look at that smile. Also, complains about the making out. (see picture above!)

Here's Brandon getting (deservedly) really pissed. It looks like he going to pull a Jake & Vienna on her. ("Don't undermine me! Stop interrupting me!")

"I feel like an awful friend and a slut. And now I'm all by myself while everyone has fun."
Boo, you whore. Just kidding. I love Kelly. I just like to quote Mean Girls whenever possible.

Is she wearing body suit or a bathing suit? It's so hard to tell the difference.

So there's this whole sand castle contest (boring) and Andrea and a bunch of kids win. Crazy racist girl makes some remark about how Andrea's last name is Zuckerman, so she must be a rich spoiled Jew. Seriously. And then tries to play it off because it's meant as a "COMPLIMENT" Ugh....

And Brandon's like "really? seriously? You're a good kisser and all, but I'm not down with the KKK. I think we should break up". It also looks like he has to poop.

Racist girl tries to woo him back with her mom hair and spandex, but he's just not having it.

Meanwhile, the beach club is having this big end of the summer bbq, and guess whose performing? Holy crap, it's David Silver, pre-rap career.

Look at those dance moves!

Henry's kind of impressed.

The Walshes aren't buying it. If you didn't catch the amazing Madonna episode last week, I highly suggest going to Hulu or downloading the ep off iTunes. My current favorite character (besides Jesse St. James, but that's just because Jonathan Groff makes my vagina quiver), is Brittany, played by Heather Morris.

She of little words, but who probably brings the funny more than even Sue Sylvester, and that's saying something. Classics include:
"Did you know that dolphins are just gay sharks?"
"When I pulled my hamstring, I went to the masogynist"
"um.a male duck." (when asked if she knew what a ballad was)

I seriously love her. And, I just realized that she's one of Beyonce's main backup dancers for the last tour! My brain exploded with pop culture goodness. Here she is at the Grammy's:

So fierce, it hurts. Does anyone else enjoy Glee as much as I do?
Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-64092000356427691482010-04-12T09:33:00.001-07:002010-04-19T17:01:49.658-07:00nostalgic trip into my 12 year old bathroomI was at the drugstore the other day, and came across something I had blanked out of my mind.

Teen Spirit ACTUALLY existed and it's somehow still being mass produced! I think this blew my mind. Now, it's odd that I had shelved this in some dark cavernous part of my brain because this deodorant inspired a classic grunge hit. I should KNOW THIS. But for some reason, I kind of thought it was all a weird pre-pube dream I had from back in the day. No. They really made this shit, and I bought a truck load of it. Not only was there the deodorant, there was also the shampoo and conditioner. Which probably competed in my shower stall with:

Salon Selectives. Every girl I knew in middle school would strut down the hall, swinging her apple scented hair thanks to this product. I really loved it. I don't think it's on the market anymore which is too bad.

Also, seemingly on the way out is Jane cosmetics.

When Jane first came out, I was totally obsessed. I blame Seventeen magazine and their huge marketing campaign for the new brand. It was cheap. It came in cute packaging. They had little mini lipsticks to try out for only $1, and I could fill my caboodle with them.(Let's not even start on Caboodles. I had like 6 of them.) I actually still used Jane powder and eyeshadow up until about a month ago, when I realized I just couldn't find it anymore. It's a shame. I feel like my youth is dying.

How is Jane dying, and Bonne Bell still huge?

Almost every girl I know had a load of lip smackers in her backup. This seemed to be a great "first makeup" along with clear mascara. Thanks mom. Maybe if I layer on enough Dr. Pepper, it'll actually make me look like I'm wearing some. Or that I have fruit punch mouth. It just inspired me to steal her aqua eyeliner and color my whole eyelid with it. Oh well. Bonne Bell is still around, and every once in a while, I'm suckered into buying some sort of smelly gooey lip gloss thing. The vanilla is especially yummy and tastes like frosting.

And everyone also wore this? Right?

Another long lasting trend, Baby Soft came out in the 70's and became the classic "go to" girl perfume. I definitely wore this in the 80's, probably dousing myself in entire bottles. I wonder if they still make it? I'd love to get my hand on a bottle and see if it still smells as nice as I remember.

And lastly, the dreaded Sun-In.

Tempting mousy haired brunettes into thinking we would have gorgeous blond waves if we just sprayed a little of this chemical in our hair and sat out in the sun for a few hours with a Christopher Pike book. The result was horrifying. I spent most of my teen years with a brassy orange mop on my head thanks to Sun-In. My mom was dead set against me coloring my hair, but somehow I thought sneaking Sun-In wouldn't be noticeable. As soon as I graduated high school, I spent a good chunk of graduation money on professional highlights. And you know what? Now I'm just back to plain brown, and I kinda like it.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-37483962047799662162010-04-05T21:32:00.000-07:002010-04-05T21:47:40.895-07:00What the frackWHAT IS GOING ON HERE?

I am so confused. I have been addicted for for the last couple of years, and it's really the only competition/talent show I watch. I don't even mess with American Idol. So You Think You Can Dance? Whatever. America's Got Talent? Zzzzzz.

My big beef is that there's always some pop tart who has been dancing since she/he was five, who unfairly kicks ass (see past contestants: Joey Fatone, Drew Lachey, Scary Spice etc. Currently: Nicole, the Pussycat Doll). Then there's the gymnasts and ice skaters. I'm not saying they have a totally unfair advantage because ballroom dancing is difficult. But I'm more impressed by the non-dancers who learn how to perform and connect with an audience, to memorize routines and get their 8 counts.

I have to say I'm super pissed that Shannon Doherty got kicked off first tonight. I was totally team Brenda. So now I've only got one couple I'm really rooting for and that's Niecy Nash and Louis!

I fell in love with Louis last season when he danced with Kelly Osbourne. And how can you not love Niecy? She hosts Clean House, which was one of my favorite Style network shows when I had cable. She's always wearing an awesome flower in her hair (I'm hoping for a coordinated one for every DWTS dance). And tonight, when asked about one of her fellow dancers being voted off, she responded:

"It makes me sick to my stomach...and kind of hungry."

I LOVE HER.
If you watch the show, please vote for her, because not only is she shaking her "jiggly parts" and doing really well, she brings the funny. Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-82524354243159672482010-03-21T13:38:00.000-07:002010-03-21T14:02:13.281-07:00Sickness prevails, what's a girl to doI hate being sick and going to the grocery store and being *that* person. You know, the sick girl with her grubby sweatshirt and ponytail, unshowered and sweaty, with a laundry list of stuff to buy. Mine today included:

* Mucinex
* Yogi Thoat Comfort tea
* 1 lemon
* cough drops
* super orange Emergen-C
* cadbury cream eggs (you know for a sugar boost)
* New Moon reserved at the redbox

Yes, I am that girl. I also hate how the person checking me out is just looking at me in disdain thinking, "yuck, don't touch me. I see that Mucinex in your cart."

Luckily I have a wonderful boyfriend who also took me out for Pho (delicious anytime, HEAVENLY when you have a cold), then stopped by the library so I could pick up some books on hold. So now I'm in bed, computer in my lap, tea full of lemon and honey next to me, and a stack of books on the table beside me. About as content as I could be with a sore throat and a cough that is making me wince, it hurts so much. Do any of you have sick time rituals? Mine normally included noodles, Gilmore Girls and vicks vapor rub.

Also, any advice on on how to relive really deep chest pain and a sore throat? I'll take any tips! C'mon moms, nurse me!
Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-23810605555864257272010-03-18T13:40:00.000-07:002010-03-18T13:44:30.763-07:00Pie vs. Cake: YOU DECIDEJezebel is cracking me up with their current March Madness tournament:

I highly recommend heading over to Jezebel.com and participating. I'm an equal opportunity dessert eater, in that I love both pie and cake (and cookies and brownies and ice cream, yikes). I will say if I HAD to pick one, I'd probably go with pie.

Cheesecake for the win!

PS: I'm not sure if it's cutting off the image on anyone else's computer. It is on mine. I am not trying to make you jealous. Well, I might be.

Spring has come to Seattle. The last month has been unbelievably gorgeous, with temps getting as high as the mid 60's, a lack of (major) rainfall, and everything has started to bloom. Don't believe me? I took these outside of my apartment this week:

Gorgeous right?

I am feeling a bit guilty about enjoying all this fabulous weather because....I have had the last month and a half off. I didn't want to blog about it too much, because...it's well weird. The record store that I work at was moving. Our landlord didn't have our new building ready for us yet. So, we've been waiting. And getting paid. I know, I know...I would punch me right now too if I were you. It's weird because I have dreamed of having this kind of time off. And I have enjoyed it by reading way too many books (actually reading way too many YA books), diligently practicing my knit stich so that I can finally move on from just purling, spring cleaning the house (haven't gotten very far) and being lazy. Well, not just lazy. The weather has inspired the bf and I to go on hikes, and picnics and just nice long walks. I ate next to a river last week, and climbed (a tiny) part of a mountain a few weeks before that.

It's been awesome. And I go back to work Monday. Which I am actually so glad for, I'm truly looking forward to it. So here's to Spring...I hope everyone gets a chance to see it soon. (and for those wondering, it's pouring down rain today and windy, so there ya go)
Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-78645105304261182232010-03-06T19:16:00.000-08:002010-03-08T18:14:55.021-08:00Willa, making me feel like a kid againI have a new obsession.

And it involves a cartoon. Yes, a cartoon.

I may be 28 years old, but I still like to flip through the channels while eating breakfast, especially on the weekend. I normally would rather sit through an episode of Judge Judy than any of the current cartoons out there, but last weekend I happened to come across the CUTEST animation I've seen in a long time.

Willa's Wild Life

I don't know what it is about this show, but I was hooked. I sat through two full episodes, and then hopped on line and watched all the ones that I could find. I still don't even know what it's really about. An adorable little girl named Willa lives with her dad and basically a zoo? And I'm pretty sure one of the mean cartoon girls is voiced by Paige from Degrassi.

I really like this style of animation. I love Willa as a character (normal girl with problems). It's so cute! I'm seriously obsessed. Has anyone else seen this? Or I am the only almost 30-something who can't get enough of it? (or still watches cartoons when she's bored?)Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-39284961591471423352010-03-04T10:07:00.001-08:002010-03-04T10:14:55.131-08:00A Kishi-eque momentToday I feel like Claudia Kishi.

No I'm not rocking a side ponytail, or wearing some cool parrot papermache earrings that I made, or complaining about how spelling is so hard. I wish.

I'm experiencing my lady time and seem to be on a junk food rampage. Yesterday I made the mistake of hiding a butterfinger in my apartment, and as of twenty minutes ago I couldn't find it. I don't have any hollowed out books, or art supplies to dig through, but I knew I had stuck it somewhere. My hormones were calling to me. Finally, I had my "ah ha!" moment, and found it tucked away in a box with a bunch of CD's next to my computer.

I am now eating a candy bar for breakfast. Thanks Claudia for the inspiration.

(if you don't read BSC books, this blog will be a bunch of nonsense to you. She is pretty much my childhood idol. Finding her blog was like watching those Visa Olympic commercials over and over, especially the Dan Jansen one. Not sure what I'm talking about?

This shit made me bawl everytime. Damn you Morgan Freeman and your amazing voice overs.

I'm so excited to read about Judy, even if she doesn't update it regularly. In fact, finding her blog has inspired me to pull out my worn copy of Just as Long as We're Together, by far my favorite Blume book.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-10806095373723979732010-02-27T10:41:00.000-08:002010-03-06T19:48:27.202-08:00My new favorite websiteSo I think cats are okay. I've just recently discovered that I actually think they are cute, and would potentially want one in my future. I blame my parents who never really allowed my siblings and I to have anything more intense than some goldfish that we won at the fair. One lived a really long time and was abnormally big. The other 3 died within days. Maybe the first goldfish ate them? I can't remember, it's too traumatic.

I do, however, love dogs. Dogs are my thing. I am anxiously awaiting the day when I move into a dwelling that actually allows pets, and I can get my dream dog: a beagle, or a golden retriever/lab mix. But in the meantime, check out this website:

hipster puppies

I mean is that not the cutest thing ever? Go to the site, and check out the caption for it. I died, it's so adorable and funny.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-11018119297264798742010-02-20T09:37:00.000-08:002010-03-06T19:49:02.546-08:00Books I've loved, lost and bought back againI am an avid book reader, collector and worth noting, a total nostalgia junkie. In other words, I collect children and teen books. I love re-reading stuff from my childhood. I feel no shame in it, although the overflowing boxes of books in my closet are starting to worry me. My grandmother saved most of her books, and I remember running downstairs to her basement to flop on the couch and dig into her first edition Nancy Drew's. I hope someday to pass the books I've loved onto my kids or grandkids or anyone else I can pawn them off on. In the meantime, I'll keep re-reading and collecting and enjoying.

There's the classics: Judy Blume, Roald Dahl, Harriet the Spy, Little House etc. But my guiltiest pleasure is 80's ya series. Oh my God, I LOVED a series that I could collect and set up on my bookshelf, trying to fill in the numbers I was missing. Here's a sampling:

The Baby-Sitters Club

Oh sweet BSC, you were a time of innocence before I jumped into Steven King and V.C. Andrews. I absolutely still love this series about a group of baby-sitters and their adventures. There was nothing too dramatic about the BSC. Sometimes they would fight, like if Mary Anne got a makeover, or Stacey decided she was mature for the club, or if Claudia would eat the last twinky (kidding). But that's kind of why they remain a favorite. The relationships the girls had with each other was so realistic and well, for lack of a better word, normal. Completely relate-able. And worth it just for the epic outfit descriptions.
(Boy Crazy Stacey and Mallory and the Trouble with Twins were my two favorites: hello, the beach and makeovers?)

Sweet Valley High

SVH was awesome for the opposite reason. Total unbelievable drama! (as seen in the above image, yum frozen pancakes.) This series was set in the fictional town of Sweet Valley, with a cast of white bred, beautiful teens headed by the perfect size 6 Wakefield twins. It's a soap opera and I loved it. Famously ghostwritten by a bazillion writers, it made Francine Pascal rich, and robbed me of my allowance on many occasions. Basically Sweet Valley High and The Baby-Sitters Club made teen publishing what it is today.

Freshman Dorm

Sorry for the small images. But if you can lean in real close to your screen, you'll see my favorite part of the Freshman Dorm series: collage covers! I always loved how it was a bunch of photos, with weird 90's junk sitting on top of it (erasers that spelled out hot, nail polish, weird key chains, mini pizzas). Freshman Dorm encouraged my dreams of college while I was still in middle school. Surprisingly realistic, well at least in the beginning, the teens of Freshman Dorm *gasp* actually go to classes, and work on their homework in between falling in love, becoming anorexic, getting addicted to drugs, almost getting married etc. I avidly re-read this series now, in hopes that it will pump me up, a contrast to how boring college actually is.

Cheerleaders

This tiny photo was extremely difficult to locate, which is making me realize this series might have been harder to find in the 80's than I thought. I still own way too many of these books. I just loved this series because I wanted to be a cheerleader when I was a little girl, but really...the plots are either totally ridiculous or completely boring. You don't really feel anything for *any* of the characters because they're mostly so shallow and self centered, and not in a fun Jessica Wakefield or Lila Fowler kind of way either. Oh well, I still loved it as a kid. Famous ya authors got their start on this series, including Caroline B. Cooney and Christopher Pike!

Sunset Island

Sunset Island....oh how I still love thee. This series follow three girls who become au-pairs on a beautiful island during two (very long) summers. Cherie Bennett is the master of describing outfits, most of them horrendous (think day glo), and child care is mostly put on the back burner, with the focus on the girls love lives with various hot dudes on the island. My favorite part is the local band, Flirting with Danger (!!!). Seriously, that name is so ridiculous, you have to love it.

Sleepover Friends

These were, and still, are kind of baby-ish, but c'mon, it's called The Sleepover Friends! Cute! Really, it's like The Baby-sitters Club lite. Pretty wholesome, nothing too intense happens. The only real reason to read these books are for the intense junk food sessions they go on. Serious food porn. Pizza, fudge, Dr. Pepper, bbq chips, cookies, leftover chinese food...if it's in the fridge, these girls will eat it.

Other series I loved (and some I still collect) include: Canby Hall, The Fabulous Five, Pen Pals, Sunfire, Satin Slippers, Couples, Sweet Dreams, Merivale Mall, Seniors, Roommates, Girl Talk, geesh.

Now I've just gotta keep my fingers crossed that the new Sweet Valley and BSC books that are planned, aren't totally terrible.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-8284241221487653572010-02-10T11:06:00.000-08:002010-03-06T19:55:24.247-08:00WOE!! READ SOME POE! FEELING LOW! (wtf?)So I shouldn't have been such a braggart about my computer success. Because promptly after posting that blog, and watching two episodes of Jersey Shore on MTV.com (don't hate, it makes me laugh so hard), my new-ish old laptop crashed. A goner. Two trips to the Apple store wasted. Hard drive is busted. And it's not really worth replacing.

So I've made the mature decision. To purchase a new lap. A NON-MAC! (the screaming and crying you hear is my boyfriend wailing in the corner.)

I've been a Mac girl for a while. I'm an Apple addict. However, I just can't afford a Mac Book Pro, and I need something fast, that I can stream video, surf the net and write papers for school on. I'm not asking for much. I don't need anything too fancy. I just refuse to spend $700 (and up!) for a used or refurbished sluggish powerbook or ibook.

So I'm doing it!

(I've got my eye on this Toshiba)

Also, remember when I was hating on Twitter? Well because of my iPhone and the awesome twitter apps, I've joined. Mostly to read other celebrities tweet. But then today, I dove it. I posted a tweet about not tweeting. Ten minutes later, I actually tweeted. I felt the urge, and I succumbed. So if you want to follow me, (the two people who read this blog) do so.

User name is: IWantYouSass
(yes, i forgot to put the 'R' in my user name. And didn't realize this until I'd already added all my favorite celebs to follow, and didn't want to deal with creating a new account. Now lots of pervy and skeevy internet dudes just see I WANT YOU and decide to follow me. Ughhh, creepy)

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-84208156327339727222010-02-08T09:51:00.000-08:002010-03-06T19:56:17.144-08:00Computer woes no morePhew, I'm back.

My computer needed a new keyboard, and it's back to it's sluggish ways. BUT, I also have access to an older laptop now, which is kind of like the greatest thing in the world. It's sort of mine. But not. But it is. But not. It's still awesome.

It other news, The Grammy's were pretty much a snooze fest. Except Pink. Holy shit balls, she was amazing.

Weirdly enough, when Pink first came out, I was a part of her street team. I used to post on the AOL music boards a lot, and somehow got involved with the promotion before her first album. I haven't followed her much since then, but every time I see her on TV, I'm just like...dang, you are cooler than any other crappy female singer out there. Props to Pink for keeping it going.

In a side note, remember when AOL was the shit? Good lord, my dad used to have to set a timer for me because I spent so much time on it. The thing would chime, and he'd be like "okay, your hour is up!". And I'd be like, "but dad, I'm still chatting in this stupid chat forum to strangers in Milwaukee!" Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-22469921311912481982010-01-27T20:03:00.000-08:002010-01-27T20:11:14.028-08:00I like my coffee with sugar and creamYou know how sometimes waking up in the morning, the best thing is just a hot, steaming, cup of coffee?

Yeah coffee is awesome, unless you are clumsily knocking said cup of coffee all over your keyboard, which then floods into your old, barely holding on Mac.

So my apologies for being so blog-less lately, as I have been computer free. Thank God for that iPhone, or I'd be pulling out my hair! I'm currently on my BF's laptop, which is heavenly and makes me crave just having a random grand or so hanging around to purchase my own.

Cross your fingers that my computer woes end soon and with a happy ending.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-15313979874041340282010-01-14T17:26:00.000-08:002010-01-14T17:57:58.131-08:00Boys that gave me that "tingly" feelingMy boyfriend is not going to love this post.

But ooh, I've been working up a list of hot boys I was in love with in the 90's. The dreamboats. The bad boys. The ones who made me feel like a grown woman.

Let's start with one of my faves:
Brad Renfro

I had an abnormally huge crush on Brad Renfro. He starred in such movies as The Client, The Cure, and Tom and Huck. He went on to do more serious acting in late teens, twenties before passing away. I am beyond embarrassed to tell you that I saw Tom and Huck in the theater. MULTIPLE TIMES. And I would "wooo" at the screen when his name came across in the opening credits. I mean it's ok, I lived in Olympia and was 13 and hadn't discovered riot grrrl yet. Right?

on to:
Jonathan Brandis

Wait. I just realized the first two actors I've listed are now dead. That's pretty morbid and sad. But Jonathan Brandis! Oh be still my tweenage heart. Ladybugs. That's all I need to say right? Cross dressing soccer players made me swoon. One year I dressed up as Jonathan Brandis from Ladybugs for Halloween. You can understand how confusing that was to be a girl dressing up as a boy who was dressing up as a girl. Whatever, it was awesome. Also, I'd like to add that I crushed out on him in Seaquest. But that dumb dolphin!

Andrew Keegan

Let me preface this by saying that by the time he did 10 Things I Hate About You (which I adore), I was over my childish infatuation with him. I was a full on Keegan fan after seeing Camp Nowhere. Oh lord, I still find that film totally enjoyable. Did anyone else see that? I used to quote it incessantly.

Christian Bale

(I hate that when I googled pictures of him, mostly what came up with stuff from American Psycho. Yikes)
Oh Christian. You're still marginally attractive, but in my head you will always be selling papes in Newsies or swapping spit with Winona Ryder in Little Women. What a dreamboat.

Leonardo DiCaprio

I, along with millions of other girls, went through a huge Leonardo faze. I thought he was adorable in Growing Pains. I loved What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Basketball Diaries and The Quick and the Dead. Then Romeo and Juliet came out and the shit hit the fan. I thought he was the most beautiful man on the planet. He was just the ultimate. By the time Titanic came out, I had sort of grown out of my crazy crush, and now I don't really find him attractive at all, but he is an amazing actor. I just watched Revolutionary Road the other night and it was heart wrenchingly good.

I know there's more, but I'll leave it at that for now. I don't want to give you too much eye candy!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-29110148725914325622010-01-01T17:22:00.001-08:002010-01-01T17:53:03.326-08:00I love you Steve JobsSo I hope everyone had a lovely holiday. Christmas and New Years both have come and gone without anything dramatic or weird happening, a success in all respects!

I have made a serious decision. I have purchased:

AN IPHONE!

This is a big deal because I never really imagined I would have an iPhone. I've had a 4 year old flip phone from Verizon for, well 4 years. Before that I didn't even have a cell phone. Yes, I didn't start using a cell phone until I was 24.

And now I have the mack daddy of phones. It is a gem. It's beautiful and sleek and I get my e-mails whenever I want, I can watch youtube videos of Jem in bed, I can play pac man or skee ball while I'm waiting in line at the post office, or if I forget where the nearest Taco Bell is, my phone will tell me. It also takes pictures of me and then makes them rainbow:

That photo is ridiculous. But it's rainbow! Seriously.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16300175616185052774noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680695540513177542.post-12693368284549840802009-12-23T14:09:00.001-08:002010-03-06T19:49:52.252-08:00Christmas crazinessI'm about to trek out to the grocery store on foot, to gather up the last bit of supplies I need for the baking extravaganza that will commence tonight.

I will be making:

Peanut butter blossoms

mini candy cane cupcakes
(this is as close as I could find to what I'm making. Except, Mine will be mini cupcakes made of white cake, with vanilla frosting and very finely crushed candy canes sprinkled on top. So delicious.
